FIRST Robotics
Fort Gibson high schoolers compete every March with FIRST robotics under the name Hostile Gato Robotics. FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." Hostile Gato Robotics students are typically those interested in fields including Computer Science, Engineering, manufacturing, marketing, multimedia, and many others. We are always looking for students that are creative and outside the box thinkers. We begin every year with an informational parent and student meeting in the fall. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting at no obligation to join. The meeting will cover everything you need to know, but here are the answers to some common questions:
As part of the funding process the team shares part of the fundraising burden. Although each student is required to participate, no student will be left out due to to finances. There is an extreme time commitment for a short but exciting build season in January and February. If you'd like more information about FIRST robotics, visit www.firstinspires.org and click on the links for FRC (9-12th graders). Typically those heavily involved with baseball, basketball, or swimming have a hard time with schedule conflicts, but it is possible to do both. You do NOT need to know anything about robotics to join the team. That is why you are joining! We do look for those who are naturally interested in building things or tinkering with old broken parts.
We also look for those who naturally understand computers. There are many non robotics positions on the team like marketing, design, organizational, etc...
